Why I am writing this 580 KM story?
If you read my last post Chandrapur to Sironcha 212 KM – 53 KM Jungle With No Shops, you remember how I crossed dense jungle near Telangana-Maharashtra border, noted every km on paper and came back to Chikodi tired.
After that Sironcha trip on 8th Feb 2026, I took a small break of 7-8 days at home in Chikodi – To backup my diary photos with watermark ,wash clothes, charge power banks and rest. Travel is not just running, rest is also important to write better diaries.
During that break I was thinking about my Ratnagiri to Ambejogai 510 KM from coast to plateau – That was my longest till then. I wanted to do the reverse – from plateau to coast – and make an even longer record.
So on 20th Feb 2026 I decided to travel Beed to Chiplun 580 KM – From dry plains of Marathwada to lush green Konkan coast …via Patoda, Jamkhed, Bhigwan, Baramati, Satara and Kumbharli Ghat with clear winter view. This became my longest ever – 15 hours in one bus.So I am writing full diary with ticket number, expense Rs 735 and conversations.

My Bus Details – What I Actually Experienced
I reached Beed bus stand at 6:50 AM, much before time. I wanted window seat 18. People were walking carefully with chappals in hand. The old building of Beed stand looks tired, paint gone.
Enquiry counter told me – “Beed to Chiplun direct 7:30 AM aahe, MH 08 AP 6126, platform 3 var lagli aahe.”
I went to platform 3. Bus was already there. Red color, little dusty. Conductor was checking diesel. I asked, “Chiplun jaanar ka?” He said, “Ho, basa, 7:30 la nighnar.” I paid Rs 630 and took window seat left side. He gave ticket and told me, “Purna ghat marg aahe, ratri hoil Chiplun la, jevan Brindavan hotel la thambel.”
Bus was half full at start. Mostly locals going to Jamkhed, Karjat. I opened my small diary and wrote – Beed 0 KM 7:30 AM.
Beed Bus Stand – 0 KM – 7:30 AM Start
Morning was cold for Feb, around 15 degrees. I wore a light sweater. There was light winter fog on Beed road and dry dust in the air, not mud. People were in sweaters and mufflers.
We left sharp at 7:30 AM. No late. As we left Beed city, we passed Talegaon village. Small village on outskirts. The road from Beed to Talegaon was okay but after that single road started. My diary was shaking because bus was jumping on potholes.
I was feeling excited and little scared – 580 KM in one bus. My friend in Beed told me, “Ekdam damta yeto, breakup kara Satara la.” But I wanted to try.
Patoda – 44 KM – 8:51 AM – First Halt
From Naigaon village, road became kachcha – single lane, both sides fields. Driver was honking continuously. At 8:51 AM we reached Patoda.
Patoda bus stand is very small. It comes under Beed division. I got down for 2 minutes to stretch legs.4-5 passengers got down. 3-4 got in. No proper shed.
I wrote in diary – Patoda 44 KM 8:51 AM.Ground was fully dry and dusty. I saw dust flying when bus stopped. I told vendor “Thandi khup aahe sakali” and he said “Ho, Feb madhe thandi jast aste Beed side la.
Jamkhed – 72 KM – 9:50 AM – Construction Stand
Beed to Jamkhed distance is 72 KM. After Patoda we passed Sautada village. Road was very rough till Jamkhed. Single road, no divider.
At 9:50 AM we entered Jamkhed. Jamkhed bus stand falls under Ahmednagar division, not Beed. Big change. Stand was under construction – Half building was broken, bricks were lying, cement bags open, workers working with spades. Conductor shouted “Jamkhed, Jamkhed.”
I asked a local passenger sitting next to me, “Ha stand kadhi pasun bandhkam chalu aahe?” He said, “2 mahine zale.”
I noted – Beed to Jamkhed 72 KM done. This is border of Marathwada and Ahmednagar region. My back was already paining because of rough road.
Karjat – ∼115 KM – 10:40 AM – First Clean Stand After Rough Road
After Jamkhed, finally the torture ended. From Arangaon and Mahijalgaon, we hit proper tar highway. My back said thank you. Bus picked up speed.
At around 10:40 AM we entered Karjat. Karjat bus stand also comes under Ahmednagar division, like Jamkhed. But unlike Jamkhed which was under construction and dusty, Karjat stand was small but clean and little organized. Not big, but there was proper cement platform.
Bus stopped for just 3 minutes. I didn’t get down fully, just opened window. 2-3 school students got in with bags. One lady selling peanuts came near window – “Shengdane ghya, garam aahet.” I said no because lunch was near.
A passenger in front told conductor, “Karjat pasun road changla aahe aata Bhigwan paryant.” It was true. From Karjat to Bhigwan, road is smooth highway.
I wrote in diary – Karjat ∼115 KM, 10:40 AM, Ahmednagar division, small clean stand after long single road patch. From here highway started.
Bhigwan Highway – Hotel Brindavan – 11:52 AM – 20 Min Lunch
Then came Kolwadi, Rashin, Akolni villages. At 11:52 AM, driver took left and stopped at Hotel Brindavan Veg-NonVeg on Bhigwan-Rashin Highway. This is highway side big hotel.
Conductor loudly shouted, “20 min halt, jevan karun ghya, gadi 12:15 la nighnar.”
I was very hungry. I ordered Misal Pav. It was hot, spicy, with farsan and onion on top. Taste was good. Bill was Rs 45 only.
I asked hotel boy, “Bhigwan kitna dur hai yahan se?” He replied, “19 KM hi hai saab, bus se 20 minute.”
I washed hands and came back. Bus was still there. Many people eating vada pav, tea.
Bhigwan Madanwadi – 12:52 PM – Bhima River Bridge
We started again at 12:15 PM from Brindavan. After Khed village, we passed Rajegaon. Here comes Bhima river bridge. Driver slowed down fully and drove very carefully.
Bridge is long. Bhima river water was very low and calm, sandy banks were visible because it was Feb end of winter, not monsoon.
At 12:52 PM we reached Bhigwan Madanwadi bus stand. This is small road side stand, not main Bhigwan city. After this stand, road again became little bad, patches.
I wrote in diary – Lunch done, Bhima bridge crossed carefully, Bhigwan Madanwadi 12:52 PM.
Baramati – 2:00 PM – Driver Change – 208 KM Left
We passed Shethfalgade village. Fields of sugarcane started. At 2:00 PM we entered Baramati.
Baramati bus stand is huge. Tufan gardi. Crowd everywhere. 4-5 buses honking same time. Passengers running with luggage. Big campus.
Our driver and conductor changed here. This is standard for long route like 580 KM. New driver came with tea in hand. We got 10 min halt.
I asked a student sitting near me, “Chiplun ajun kiti rahil?” He checked phone and said, “208 KM shillak aahe aata Baramati pasun.”
I felt tired already but 208 KM still left. I bought water bottle for Rs 20.
Phaltan – 2:44 PM – Nira River Bridge
From Baramati we went via Sangavi village. At Nira river bridge, bus again slowed. Nira river was flowing slow because of less water during winters. After bridge, road from Adarki Budruk was under construction. Full dust. Windows were closed because dust coming inside. Bus was shaking left-right.
At 2:44 PM we reached Phaltan. Phaltan is taluka place. Stand was medium size. Not too crowded. 2-3 passengers got down.
My diary page was full of dust now. I had to clean it with hand.
Satara – 4:25 PM – 123 KM Left to Chiplun
After Phaltan, rural area started. We passed Hanumant Wadi, Wathar, Devur. At Devur there was railway crossing. Gate was closed. We waited for 8 minutes. Goods train passed slowly.
Then we passed Waduj and at 4:25 PM evening, Satara bus stand.
Satara is big city. Announcement system loud. My co-passenger lady got down here with 2 bags. Before going she told me, “Pudhcha ghat khup sundar aahe, pan sambhalun, ghatat jasta halto bus.”
From Satara board I saw – Chiplun 123 KM remaining. I wrote in diary.I was now excited for ghat.
Umbraj – 5:10 PM – Small Highway Stop
After Satara we came on Bangalore-Pune Express Highway. Super smooth road for 20 KM. Bus was running 70-80 speed.
At 5:10 PM evening we reached Umbraj. Umbraj is not a big stand. It’s just small bus stop on highway side. No building, only shed. Bus stopped for 1 minute. 2 people got down. Highway air was cold.
Patan – 5:45 PM – Most Important Taluka of Satara
From Umbraj we entered ghat road. First small ghat – Urul village on ghat itself. Then we came down to Malhar Peth. Here bus stopped for 2 minutes. Malhar Peth is small.
Then Nava Rasta village and at 5:45 PM evening, Patan. Patan stand was bigger than Umbraj, more crowd, lights started.
My phone battery was 20% now. I switched to power saver.
Koyana Nagar – 6:40 PM – 5 Min Chai at Hotel Lakshmi Prasad
From Patan we passed Rasati village. Small, dark road now. At 6:40 PM we reached Koyana Nagar.
Koyana Nagar stand is not big stand. Very small. Bus stopped for 5 min chai pani.
Evening was very cold in Koyana Nagar, wind was chilling.I went to Hotel Lakshmi Prasad just in front of stand. I ordered hot cutting chai. Rs 20. That hot chai at Hotel Lakshmi Prasad felt even more needed in winter
Hotel owner told me, “Koyana Nagar pasun Chiplun 42 KM rahila, pan ghat varcha thikan ST la chadhayla far vel lagto, 42 KM sathi 1.5 tas lagel.”
He was 100% right. I came back to bus.
Kumbharli Ghat – 42 KM – 1.5 Hours – Clear Winter View
6:40 PM to 8:00 PM – This was main reason I took this bus Kumbharli Ghat.
Koyana Nagar to Chiplun 42 KM but all ghat. ST takes minimum 1.5 hours as owner told. Our bus was climbing slowly, 20-25 speed only. Driver blowing horn on every blind turn. No light in ghat, only bus headlights.
Kumbharli Ghat in Feb was totally clear, no rain clouds. Sky was deep blue, cold wind was hitting face from window. Visibility was super clear so I could see full valley and Konkan side deep down. Driver told me “Pavsala madhe ha ghat dhukyat asto, aata hivalyat clear disato
No hotels, no shops, no houses for 42 KM. Only jungle and road. This is longest and highest ghat towards Chiplun side.I was scared and happy both..
Chiplun – 580 KM – 8:00 PM – Final Arrival
After ghat we passed Shirgaon and Khardi villages. After ghat, air changed – humid, coastal feeling. Konkan started. Coconut trees.
At 8:00 PM night, we entered Chiplun town. Lights everywhere. At 8:00 PM sharp, Chiplun bus stand.
I got down. Legs were paining like hell. Back stiff. Eyes heavy. But feeling of achievement – 580 KM, 15 hours, 13 stops, 2 rivers, 1 massive ghat, 1 Misal Pav, 2 chai.
I took auto to room.
5 Important Learnings & Tips For You
- Food halts are only 2 – Hotel Brindavan 11:52 AM for 20 min and Koyana Nagar 6:40 PM for 5 min. No other proper halt. Keep water and biscuits with you. Don’t depend on next stop.
- Driver changes at Baramati – At 2:00 PM driver change happens. 10 min halt is fixed. Use washroom here, Baramati stand has clean washroom.
- Kumbharli Ghat 42 KM = 1.5 hours – No network, no shop in ghat. Charge phone at Satara. If you have motion sickness, take window seat and avoid eating heavy at Koyana Nagar.
- Beed stand – Reach 20 min early to find platform.Beed side is very cold in Feb morning – Carry light sweater and cap. Dust is more, not mud, so keep water
- Best seat – After Satara, sit on left side (valley side) for best Kumbharli Ghat view. But if you get vomiting in ghat, sit on right side front seat 1-5.
