Thane to Raver by MSRTC Bus – My Amazing Real Journey of 550 KM

My previous journey was Ichalkaranji to Bhiwandi. I started from Ichalkaranji bus stand at 7:00 AM on 2nd March 2026 and I reached Bhiwandi bus stand at 9:15 PM on the same day.

The total distance was more than 400 kilometers and the total time was 14 hours and 15 minutes. The ticket price was 710 rupees. I noted six toll plazas, two tunnels, five rivers and Khandala Ghat in my diary.

That journey ended at Bhiwandi bus stand. Bhiwandi is an important place because it is close to Mumbai and it is known for power looms. After that journey, I was in the Bhiwandi area.

Now Thane Khopat Central Bus Stand is not far from Bhiwandi actually. The distance between Thane and Bhiwandi is only 30 to 40 kilometers and it takes only one hour by bus. So Thane is very near to Bhiwandi.

Therefore I decided to start my next journey from Thane. This is the natural continuation. My Part 1 ended at Bhiwandi and my Part 2 starts from nearby Thane. This is why this post is called continuation after Ichalkaranji to Bhiwandi.

My total chain till now includes Chiplun to Akkalkot which is 380 kilometers at night, Akkalkot to Pandharpur which is 111 kilometers and costs 625 rupees, Ichalkaranji to Bhiwandi which is more than 400 kilometers and costs 710 rupees, and now Thane to Raver which is 550 kilometers and costs 850 rupees. The total distance is more than 1441 kilometers in MSRTC buses and all journeys have diary proof.

My Bus Details – What I Experienced on Thane to Raver Route

I reached Thane Khopat Central Bus Stand at 7:00 AM in the morning. I wanted to reach early so that I could find my platform easily. Thane Khopat is a major bus stand in Thane district and it is always crowded in the morning.

I went to the enquiry counter and I asked about the Raver bus. The person at the counter told me that all buses for Jalgaon, Dhule, Raver, Amalner, Chopda, Nandurbar and Muktainagar leave from Platform Number 4.

I went to Platform Number 4 and I saw my bus was already standing there. The bus number was MH 14 BT 1457. I took a photo of the number plate for my proof. The conductor was sitting inside and he was issuing tickets. I asked him about the route.

I said, “Bhau, hee bus Raver la jaate ka?” which means Brother, does this bus go to Raver.

He replied, “Ho, Bhiwandi, Nashik, Malegaon, Dhule, Amalner, Chopda, Yawal, mag Raver.” which means Yes, via Bhiwandi, Nashik, Malegaon, Dhule, Amalner, Chopda, Yawal and then Raver.

I asked him, “Kiti vel lagto?” which means How much time does it take.

He replied, “13 taas. Raatri 7:30 vajata pohochte.” which means 13 hours. We will reach around 7:30 PM.

The complete route of this bus is Thane to Bhiwandi to Nashik to Malegaon to Dhule to Amalner to Chopda to Yawal to Raver. I purchased my ticket for 850 rupees from Thane to Raver.

I found a comfortable window seat on the left side in the third row. I kept my bag on my lap. The window was a little tight but I pushed it open. I knew that this was going to be a long journey of more than 550 kilometers and almost 13 hours of travel.

Stop 1: Thane Khopat Bus Stand – 0 KM – 7:45 AM Departure

The bus started at 7:45 AM from Platform Number 4. The conductor blew the whistle and the driver pressed the horn loudly. The bus gave a small jerk and then it slowly left Platform Number 4. The engine made a loud sound and some black smoke came out from the back.

I was sitting near the window and I was looking outside at the morning scene. The streets of Thane were waking up. I could see tea stalls where tea was boiling and the shopkeepers were opening their shutters one by one.

I could see school children wearing white uniforms and riding bicycles to school. I could see auto rickshaws and bikes creating traffic near the bus stand. The bus moved slowly through the city traffic and then it took the highway towards Bhiwandi.

My long journey from Thane to Raver had started and I was going towards the northern part of Maharashtra which is called the Khandesh region.

Stop 2: Bhiwandi Bus Stand – 8:38 AM – 30 to 40 KM From Thane

After one hour of travel from Thane, we reached Bhiwandi at 8:38 AM. The distance from Thane to Bhiwandi is only 30 to 40 kilometers. This proves that Thane is not far from Bhiwandi actually.

I remembered this bus stand very well because my previous journey of Ichalkaranji to Bhiwandi had ended here at 9:15 PM after 14 hours of travel. Last time I was very tired and I got down here as my final destination. This time I was passing through Bhiwandi in the morning at 8:38 AM and I was going further north towards Raver. This is why this journey is called continuation.

Bhiwandi is an industrial town and it is famous for its power looms. The bus stand was busy with many passengers coming and going. A few passengers got down from our bus and four to five new passengers got inside with big bags. I did not get down from the bus at Bhiwandi. I only looked outside from the window.

A vendor was shouting for water bottles. I asked him, “Dada, Nashik ajun kiti vel lagel?” which means Brother, how much more time will it take to reach Nashik. He replied, “2.5 taas.” which means 2.5 hours.

Stop 3: Shahapur Bus Stand – 9:45 AM – Diesel Halt – 60 to 70 KM

After Bhiwandi, the bus continued on the Mumbai Nashik Highway. The road was wide and the bus was moving at a good speed. On both sides of the road I could see small villages, green farms and small hills.

We reached Shahapur bus stand at 9:45 AM. The bus stopped here for diesel refill. The driver switched off the engine and the conductor shouted that the bus would stop for diesel. This is a very important halt because all long route buses from Thane to Nashik and Dhule fill diesel at Shahapur. I saw three to four other MSRTC buses standing in the diesel queue.

Shahapur is a town on the Mumbai Nashik Highway and it has a small bus stand. I got down from the bus to stretch my legs. I went to a tea stall and I purchased tea for 15 rupees. The tea was strong and it had less sugar.

I asked the conductor, “Shahapur pasun Nashik javal aahe ka?” which means Is Nashik near from Shahapur. He replied, “50 kilometer, 1 taas.” which means 50 kilometers and one hour. The bus took 15 minutes for diesel refill.

Stop 4: Hotel Durga Diamond – 10:00 AM – Breakfast Break – 80 KM

After Shahapur, the road started climbing and the Kasara Ghat started. Kasara Ghat is a winding ghat road with beautiful views of the Western Ghats. The road has many sharp curves and deep valleys on one side. I kept my window fully open and I did not sleep in the ghat. I wanted to enjoy the view.

We reached Hotel Durga Diamond at 10:00 AM. This hotel is on the highway side and it has a big parking area. Many MSRTC and private buses were parked there. All long route buses stop here for breakfast. I got down from the bus and I ordered vadapav and tea.

I asked the hotel boy, “Ithe vadapav changla milel ka?” which means Will I get good vadapav here. He replied, “Ho, garam aahe, fresh aahe.” which means Yes, it is hot and fresh.

I wrote in my diary that Hotel Durga Diamond is at 80 kilometers from Thane and the breakfast was good and Kasara Ghat was beautiful. This hotel name is not mentioned on any other website.

Stop 5: Nashik Bus Stand – 10:30 AM – 150 KM Complete

After Hotel Durga Diamond, we continued on the highway and within 30 minutes we reached Nashik. The time was 10:30 AM. I had traveled 150 kilometers from Thane to Nashik.

Nashik is a major city in Maharashtra and it is famous for its religious importance and for the Kumbh Mela. The city is also famous for the Godavari River. We crossed the Godavari River bridge before entering the bus stand.

Nashik Central Bus Stand is a large bus stand and it was very busy. I got down from the bus to stretch my legs. I purchased a water bottle for 20 rupees.

I asked a shopkeeper, “Malegaon la jayla yethun kiti kilometer aahe?” which means How many kilometers is it to Malegaon from here. He replied, “100 kilometer, 2 taas.” which means 100 kilometers and 2 hours. I wrote in my diary that I have completed 150 kilometers from Thane to Nashik.

Stop 6: Malegaon Bus Stand – 12:45 PM – 250 KM

From Nashik, the bus traveled on the Nashik Malegaon Highway. The road condition was good and the bus was moving quickly at 80 kilometers per hour. We passed through Chandwad village on the way.

We reached Malegaon bus stand at 12:45 PM. Malegaon is a city in Nashik district and it is famous for its textile industry and power looms like Bhiwandi. The bus stand was crowded and it was very hot in the afternoon.

I got down from the bus and I stood in the shade for some time. I drank water. I asked the conductor, “Dhule ajun kiti baki aahe?” which means How much time is left for Dhule. He replied, “50 kilometer, 1.5 taas.” which means 50 kilometers and 1.5 hours.

Stop 7: Dhule Bus Stand – 2:15 PM – 300 KM

From Malegaon, the bus continued on the highway and we passed through Zodge village. Zodge is a small village and the bus stopped there for only two minutes.

We reached Dhule bus stand at 2:15 PM. I had traveled 50 kilometers from Malegaon to Dhule. The total distance from Thane to Dhule is around 300 kilometers. From Dhule, the distance to Amalner is only 30 kilometers.

Dhule is a major city in the Khandesh region. The bus stand was busy with many passengers. I got down from the bus and I went to the washroom. I purchased tea for 10 rupees.

I asked a local vendor, “Amalner yethun kiti lamb aahe?” which means How far is Amalner from here. He replied, “30 kilometer, 45 minute.” which means 30 kilometers and 45 minutes.

Stop 8: Amalner Bus Stand – 3:20 PM – 330 KM – 8 Platforms

From Dhule, the bus traveled on the Dhule Amalner Highway. The road became single road and on both sides there were farms. We passed through Wani Budruk, Naval Nagar, Dangar Budruk and Janve villages.

We reached Amalner bus stand at 3:20 PM. Amalner bus stand falls under Jalgaon district and it has eight platforms. I counted the platforms and I confirmed it. It is a big and clean bus stand.

I asked about the platform. I asked to a passenger, “Amalner la 8 platforms aahet ka kharach?” which means Does Amalner really have 8 platforms. He replied, “Ho, motha stand aahe.” which means Yes, it is a big stand.

From Amalner, the distance to Chopda is 38 kilometers. I wrote in my diary that Amalner is at 330 kilometers from Thane and it has eight platforms.

Stop 9: Chopda Bus Stand – 4:30 PM – Platform 5 – Bori River and Tapi River

From Amalner, the bus crossed the Bori River bridge. The bridge was small. Then we passed through Nandri, Patonda and Savkheda villages and then we crossed the big Tapi River bridge at Nimgavhan. The Tapi River is a wide river and there was less water in March.

We reached Chopda bus stand at 4:30 PM. The bus stopped at Platform Number 5. Chopda is a town in Jalgaon district and the bus stand was busy.

From Chopda, the distance to Yawal is 45 kilometers. I asked the driver, “Yawal paryant rasta kasa aahe?” which means How is the road till Yawal. He replied, “Changa aahe, 45 kilometer aahe.” which means The road is good and it is 45 kilometers.

I wrote in my diary that I crossed the Tapi River bridge at Nimgavhan and Chopda has Platform Number 5.

Stop 10: Adavad Bus Stand – 5:10 PM – 400 KM – 3 Platforms

After Chopda, we continued on the Ankleshwar Burhanpur Highway. The road was single and narrow. We reached Adavad Bus Stand at 5:10 PM.

Adavad Bus Stand has 3 platforms. The building is old but it is working fine and it is clean. I counted the platforms – It has 3 platforms like Yawal. Few passengers got down at Adavad and 4 new passengers got inside with small bags.

I got down for 2 minutes to stretch my legs. I asked a local passenger, “Adavad pasun Yawal kiti vel lagto?” which means How much time does it take from Adavad to Yawal.

He replied, “1 taas, 30 kilometer.” 1 hour, 30 kilometers.

I wrote in my diary – Adavad – 3 Platforms – 400 KM from Thane – Time 5:10 PM – Old building but clean.

Passing Through – Dhanora and Kingaon Villages – 410 to 420 KM

After Adavad, the bus passed through Dhanora village and then Kingaon village. Both are small villages on the Chopda to Yawal road. The bus did not stop in these villages, it just slowed down and then continued. On both sides there were cotton farms and the road was bumpy.

I noted in my diary: Passing Through Dhanora and Kingaon – Small villages between Adavad and Yawal – Single road – Cotton farms both sides.

Stop 11: Yawal Bus Stand – 6:00 PM – 3 Platforms – 40 KM Balance

After Kingaon, we reached Yawal Bus Stand at 6:00 PM. Yawal bus stand has three platforms. From Yawal, the distance to Raver is only 40 kilometers. This is the final stretch.

I was very tired after traveling for more than 10 hours. I asked a tea stall owner, “Raver ajun kiti door, 40 kilometer aahe ka?” which means Is Raver still 40 kilometers away. He replied, “Ho, 40 kilometer.” which means Yes, 40 kilometers.

Stop 12: Raver Bus Stand – 7:30 PM – Final Destination – 550 KM Complete

From Yawal, the bus continued on the highway. We passed through Faizpur bus stand at 6:30 PM and then Savda bus stand at 6:45 PM.

Finally we reached Raver bus stand at 7:30 PM. I got down from the bus and I was completely tired and exhausted. I had traveled more than 550 kilometers and I had passed through 12 stops. I had crossed four districts which are Thane, Nashik, Dhule and Jalgaon. I had spent almost 13 hours on the road.

Raver is in Jalgaon district near the Madhya Pradesh border and near Burhanpur. This completed my journey from Thane to Raver through the heart of Maharashtra.

This journey also completed my continuation chain. My Part 1 journey from Ichalkaranji to Bhiwandi ended at Bhiwandi and my Part 2 journey from Thane to Raver started near Bhiwandi because Thane is not far from Bhiwandi actually. The total distance of my chain is 1441 kilometers.

After The Journey – Rest At Home

After I reached Raver Bus Stand at 7:30 PM, I went to my cousin’s house in Raver town which is 2 kilometers from the bus stand. Raver is not my home. My home is in Chikodi. I stayed one night at my cousin’s house in Raver.

I washed my face, I drank water and I slept early at 9:30 PM because I was fully tired after 13 hours journey. Next morning I will take a bus back to my home in Chikodi.

After reaching my home in Chikodi, I will take complete rest for 7 days. I will not travel anywhere for 7 days. I will write my clean diary copy and sort my photos at home during this rest time.

What I Learned From This Journey

1. This journey covered four districts in one trip. The bus passed through Thane, Nashik, Dhule and Jalgaon districts and each district has its own character.
2. Kasara Ghat is very beautiful. The winding roads and scenic views of the Western Ghats were unforgettable.
3. Khandesh region is different from Western Maharashtra. The landscape, culture and people of Khandesh feel distinct.
4. Bhiwandi connects everything in my travel chain. I had ended my Ichalkaranji to Bhiwandi journey at Bhiwandi and now I was passing through Bhiwandi again at 8:38 AM. Thane is not far from Bhiwandi actually.
5. Long journeys demand patience and planning. Traveling for 13 hours in a bus is very tiring.
6. Every journey is a story and every story is worth telling with real details.
7. Travel changes your perspective. You see new places and you come back with a different mindset.
